Andrew
Lobb,One of
Northumberland's contemporary folk songwriters and singer/guitarist,
draws inspiration from the hills and valleys of Northumberland, Holy
Island and the stories of folk from years past.
Bio Andrew's
roots were put down initially in the Railway Hotel, Portsmouth, a folk
club
in England. Youngest of three children Andrew grew up in a
musical
family and soon took to learning guitar. Actually his dad refused to
carry the double bass he wanted to play in the car - a wise choice in
the end!
Song writing has always been a part of Andrew and no matter how
convinced he is that the latest song is the last song in him there is
always another and then another waiting patiently.
He moved to Northumberland in the mid-1970's and was at once captivated
by the countryside and the far horizons. It has become very much a part
of him life through hill walking taking in its atmosphere and truly
inspired scenery.
His first CD, 'Bless by an Angel' in 1999, really tidied up and put
together thirty years of past song writing, closing the door on a
chapter of his life. Once it was published he felt free to pursue his
real inspirations within Northumberland, the beginnings of which are
shown in Northumbria's Pride (2000) and Walk With Me (2001). In
particular Holy Island has been a special place and it is hard to
express it in a song, but he always look forward to its special
atmosphere. Streams of Life (2003) and Pools of Light (2004) compliment
this series of CD's.
Both 'Northumbria's Pride' and 'Walk With Me' are moving towards the
especial completeness within song writing that musicians look for. He
is now more comfortable within his own guitar style and feels that his
closeness to this land, its stones and heritage comes through.
The latest CD In the Blood features songs and tales by Northumbrian
author and storyteller David Adam and is a departure into folklore. It
also features two songs by his sister, a poet and songwriter.
He plays at various festivals & folk venues throughout the year and
has had appearances on National and Local radio and television. He
particularly enjoys appearing at the Alnwick International Music
Festival where so many diverse cultures and musical backgrounds come
together.
His spare time is spent song writing and working for a living.
